shocking news

I went painting Saturday morning. My sister really wanted this one painting, so my mom and I went and painted them for her.
Mine is on the right, mom's on the left. My sister is muchos happy- she hasn't seen them in real life, just the pics. But, she's pumped. Like always, had a blast at Corkscrews and Canvas!

painting

Have you gone to these drink-while-you-paint painting classes? They seem to be all the rage in metro Atlanta, and I went to Sips-and-Strokes about a year ago with my school. In the past few months, one of my mom's bffs has opened one these places in west Cobb called Corkscrews and Canvas.

So, I've gone quite a few times. I've been more times than a normal person should go, but it's been fun! Honestly, I like the painting a lot- if I had a need for all of these pieces of "art", I would go more often, but it's already out of control. I've been giving most of the pieces away to friends and family who mention they like the piece. I mean, if you like it, you can have it! Here are a few of the things I've done so far....
So, I've been planning a birthday party at Corkscrews and Canvas for my friend Angie, and we were trying to decide what piece to do, and I took a picture of this sample from the studio. (My friend, Jill Alford, did this!)
We're gonna go paint this next month (hopefully!), but I was curious with my own artistic ability, so I decided to attempt it myself!

Mine is obviously a little different, but I really like it! It's hanging outside of my classroom! Adorable!

Look What I Made!

I love Alabama. I love decor that supports this love. I've never seen one of these, so I decided I would be cute and make one. I like it. I'd make another if you'd want to buy it. May even consider making them for other schools. But only if you ask really nicely. After all, Alabama did win Saturday :)
(by the way. some of you need some assistance. RTR..... Roll Tide Roll..... Just in case.....)

One of the admins at my school defended her doctoral dissertation a few weeks ago- this is the gift I made for her. Just painted on a piece of wood. My first attempt in hand painting something. Kind of impressed with myself. Just sayin.

couple of things on my mind

Earthquake in Sichuan was a year ago. At the time, two of my best friends (Rachel and Maranda) were living in that area of China. It was terrifying. Because I had a first hand connection to what was happening in the area, I remember it differently than your average American.
Things are not ok.
Things are not back to normal.

Rachel's blog today said:

On May 12, 2008...
87,000 people lost their lives.
1.5 million homes were destroyed.

On May 12, 2009...as we remember,
200,000 people still remain jobless.
20,000 people still remain missing, buried beneath rubble.

Also- ran across this website on James Fallows at The Atlantic. Check it out.
Don't forget.

-----------------------------
I LOVED Caedmon's Call in college. I mean, I still love them now, but when I was in college- they were my favorite Christian band. I played 40 Acres until it was just about dead. I saw them in concert about 5 or 6 times- great songs, great music. Loved them. One of the guys in the band- Derek Webb- was always a little more "edgy" in his way of thinking and just the way he came across. Nothing super scandalous, but he was just not your typical "seemingly perfect" Christian musician. He's been doing solo stuff for a few years- it's pretty good. I don't listen to it like I listened to Caedmon's, but it's still some quality stuff.
I was reading on Bryan Allain's blog- he writes for Prayers For Blowouts too- about Derek Webb's newest album called Stokholm Syndrome. SO MUCH DRAMA surrounding it! It's not very "Derek Webb-y" to be all drama just for the sake of publicity. So, I don't know. But, I do know that I want to listen to the album.....

Well, these are just adorable.

Read about them at Kelly's Korner.
I want them so badly!! Not for me. But for all of my baby-producing friends!

Picasa

I've been using Google's online picture storage program, Picasa, for a few years now. I have just recently downloaded their storage/editing program to my computer.

I am obsessed.

I have been going to TOWN.
By FAR- my favorite thing to do is make collages! So fun! Love them! How cute for Christmas cards and such- or framed gifts. ADORABLE! Loves it!

being crafty

Sunday afternoon ended up being a major productive crafty time for me.... I painted a dresser I've been wanting to paint for about 3739 years. or 18 months. whatever. I'll post pics when it's all the way done. :)

I also made a key holder thing for our house-- I bought the stuff to do this about 4 months ago and these wooden stars have been just sitting around our house since then. But yesterday! I completed! They are ADORABLE. if I do say so myself :)
